
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA-1)
Job Description
Note: Nursing Assistant must be certified by the state of North Carolina. Certification Is Accomplished by successfully completing a training program approved by the Department of Facility Services of Division of Medical Assistance

A Certified Nursing Assistant is Deemed to process the following competencies:
Personal Hygiene for the client
Ambulation-Assist with walker, wheelchair, etc.
Feeding- Prepare special diets if necessary.
Assistance with colostomy bag change.
Assistance with range of motion.
Reinforcement of non-sterile dressings.
Conduct simple urine tests (sugar, acetone, etc.)
Measure intake and output of fluids.
Keep the client's living area clean and in order.
Launder client's clothes.
Light Housekeeping---Dust, vacuum, dishwashing.
Report to Nursing Supervisor any sudden or unusual changes in physical or emotional condition of the client.
Assist with pre-poured medications.

CNA-1 May Not: (without module training)
Change a sterile dressing.
Irrigate body cavities such as giving an enema, irrigating.
Perform a gastric lavage or gavages.
Catherize a patient.
Administer medications unless pre-poured and labeled.
Apply heat by any method.
Care for a tracheotomy tube.
Clean out Impactions.
Perform tube feedings.
Open or drain any pimple, pustule, lesion or growth on client.
Clip, cut, or trim fingernails or toe nails.
May Not Apply heat by any method.

Note: Modules: As authorized by the N.C.B.O.N. a NA-1 may perform one or more of these modules upon satisfactory completion of training in that specific module.
Approved Modules For NA-1:
Oxygen Therapy
Suctioning
Urinary Catheter
Gastrostomy
Reports to the D.O.N. or the supervising RN.

Personal Care Aid
Job Description
Note: High School Graduate or equivalent preferred. Minimum age 18 years of age.

Duties & Responsibilities
Assist Ambulatory client with mobility and toileting.
Provide care for normal unbroken skin.
Assist with personal hygiene by setting up the supplies needed for the client to complete hair and scalp grooming and fingernails.
Can assist with bathing, assist in and out of shower , tub and basin.
Shave Client.
Provide Basic First Aid.
Make unoccupied bed.
Assist limited function client with dressing.
Assist with meal preparation and cutting up food for client.
Assist and encourage physical activities and/or prescribed exercises.
Assist with following budget prepared by case manager.
Assit to find/use communityservices.
Perform Reading and writing tasks.
Provide companionship/emotional support.
Demonstrate and assist with basic housekeeping tasks (sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping,dishes, etc.)
Assist in organizing household routine.
Assist in Purchasing clothing or other household items.
Assist with planning and preparing proper meals.

Skills listed below must have competency demonstrated and verified by RN before performing:
Apply Ace bandage, TED's, binders.
Apply/Remove prosthetic devices for stable clients.
Assist Client with self-monitoring of temperature, pulse, blood pressure and weight
